Hand-crafted Iron Gates Set Elegant Community Tone
MARCH 15, 2004
TRINITY, FLA. – From landscape design to residential architecture,
everything at The Champions’ Club has been designed to create a cohesive,
Mediterranean atmosphere in this exclusive, golf-course community in
southwest Pasco County. That, of course, begins at the main gates.
Situated at the village entrances and clubhouse of The Champions’ Club, the
nine, hand-crafted iron gates – each weighing more than a ton and spanning
30 feet – establish the architectural flavor of this community, says Dan
Aldridge, spokesman for Adam Smith Enterprises, this community’s developer.
Not only does each gate incorporate the Mediterranean theme of this
community, but each gate does it in a unique way.
Landscape architect Phil Graham & Co. collaborated with Krogmann Iron &
Sculptures to create the gate designs. The result is a mix of
Mediterranean-inspired patterns with French Rococo, Tuscan, Spanish-Colonial
and Art Nouveau influences.
The gates boast antique bronze-colored iron fashioned into ornate scroll
work,
elaborate floral patterns and intricate symmetrical designs. More-ornate
gates showcase stylized crests, while other gates will feature sleeker,
smoother lines.
One of the gates’ most striking elements, says Aldridge, is the use of open
space. Framed by iron borders, several designs call for winding floral
patterns that seem to float in the air.
In addition to their artistic design, the gates also must be functional, as
their weight, width and 10- to 12-foot height attests. Featuring a key-pad
entry system, each gate will be complemented by a smaller, sidewalk gate ...
with identical theme ... for pedestrians.
The gates were handcrafted by Krogmann, based in St. Petersburg, Fla. The
company has extensive experience creating iron gates and staircases for
communities and private residences throughout Florida.
The Champions’ Club overlooks the 18-hole championship golf course at Fox
Hollow Golf Club. The golf course is the last one designed and built by
world-renowned golf-course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. The Tampa
Tribune has rated Fox Hollow as one of the top-three courses in the Tampa
Bay area.
Homes in The Champions’ Club are being built by Bayfair Homes, Campagna
Homes, Costanza Homes, Greene Builders, M/I Homes, Nohl Crest Homes, Arthur
Rutenberg Homes and Samuelsen Builders.
